P.... Poster

Okay, I know I promised you capes today, but I am going to make you wait! :)  Instead I am sharing these REALLY cute posters.  I have several good friends having babies and so I have nurseries (for them) on the brain.  I  do not like over "theme" nurseries where everything comes out of one box and matches exactly.  I also prefer nurseries that are baby focused but somewhat "elegant" or "hip".

These posters check bot the hip and elegant box and I think they would look awesome in most any nursery.  These are my favorites and would like great hung in a grouping.

L...Lessons learned!

As I mentioned last week, my friend "E" is expecting!  We were recently discussing the nursery.  Decorating a nursery is so much fun!  Having just had a baby, I can tell you that there are some lessons learned on the nursery front.  I of course will share just a bit of my wisdom! :) 

 Lesson #1:  You do not need to spend a lot on a crib.  This cute modern grey crib is $200 bucks.  I bought my crib at Target for $300.  It is great and I truly think there is no need to spend $800 plus dollars on a fancy crib.  There are a ton of inexpensive options out there!   Find Crib here!

Lesson #2:  Skip bumpers!  Bumpers are a marketing ploy.  Seriously, they are.  I am not sure why they even sell them.  They are dangerous and every pediatrician will tell you to wait until 1 year before you put them in the crib.  Now, as a mom of a 10 month old- I can tell you at 1 year I already know that Avery will use them  to climb out of the crib.  So, bumpers... useless!  The window for using them is small and they are pricey.  Skip it!  Go with a cute bedskirt (if your crib allows) and cute colorful sheets (100% cotton).  Find cute solid colorful sheets and bedskirts here! or find a cute pattern at many of the other hot kid stores!

Lesson #3:  You can never and will never have enough storage.  When you think you have enough storage- get more!  Book, toys, binkies, diapers, creams, medical supplies, hats, blankets, etc, etc, etc.  You get the idea ... babies come with a lot of stuff!  Set the closet up for storage (baskets), get a couple hampers (yes you will be doing a lot of laundry), and come up with a system for diapering stuff!   You will have a lot of books and toys!  Have a place to keep books that are easy to access at bedtime.   I love these book slings for books!  This is a great DIY project...you don't even have to sew.

Lesson #4:  Get a rug that is not white (or very very light)!  I have a rug that is super cute, but it is white and looks flithy all the time.  We have had code white (projectile spit up) and code brown (needs no explanation)... and the rug has lived to tell.  Do yourself a favor and get a darker color and a pattern will only do you right also!  Also, stick with something that will last you into toddler-hood and even childhood...you will feel less guilty spending a few bucks!  Overstock has some great options like this one!

Lesson #5:  Avoid the wicked ugly glider and get yourself something cute that you are not going to hate looking at!  I actually have a regular chair (not rocking) and have been fine.  But, if you want a rocker (which many fussy babies like) get something cute.  You can get a non upholstered rocker and just add some cute pillows to make it more comfy.   This modern rocker is all the rage these days and would be super cute in a nursery!   You can find some great rockers at antique stores too.  Now, if you are going to spend money for a upholstered glider... spend a little extra to get a nice tailored one you would put in another room when done in your nursery.  You know... something that does not scream "utilitarian glider" and is not only comfy but also cute.

S.P.... Sneak Peak!

So, as I have mentioned before, we am hastily working on the baby nursery!  There is one particular project that is slow going.  It is not yet ready for full unveiling, but I thought I would give a teaser and talk about inspiration.

I have a huge file on my computer which is simply all sorts of inspiration photos I have collected over time.   There are lots of different and random photos.   Sometimes when you look at a photo, you might have no idea what small item I was interested in, but, there is always something!

C.B..... Crib Bedding!

So, crib bedding is kind of an important item!  When creating a nursery.... it really should be the first thing you pick out.  Your theme (or not), colors and style should come from the bedding you choose!  

My mom has already purchased my crib bedding for me.  I wanted to be sure it did not sell out!  I am was looking for something will a variety of colors in in and something that was shabby chic and feminine.

My piece of advice is don't buy EVERY single matching item.  If you get the sheets, quilt and bumpers, add in your own elements from there.  If you do all the basics plus matching curtains, diaper stackers, rug and more... it can be too much!

C is for Crib!

We made a big step  in the baby preparations this past week.  I finally committed to buying a crib.  I have hard a hard time really deciding what I wanted as it is a big purchase and I did not want to regret my decision!  I also had something very particular in mind that I wanted.  Let me start by saying I do not want a lot of clutter.  I hate excess clutter in rooms.  In fact that is one of the things that makes me most nervous about baby is all the stuff that goes with baby!  Where do you keep all the crap?  I did not crib on one wall, rocker on another, changer on another... too much clutter!

Anyhoo, this is the crib I FINALLY decided on.  I love that it is a crib and changer combo and it is compact.  I also love all the storage... the drawers under the crib, on the changer part, etc!  Many cribs these days are made to go against a wall which I did not want.  So, it was important for me to find a symmetrical crib (same on each side if you split down middle).   I plan on having it come out of wall like bed rather than flat against a wall.   I also wanted something in white.  The crib I chose is made by AFG and is called the Daphne Athena crib and I bought it at Target!

After I ordered it I discovered that CSN stores sells this crib along with other crib and changer combo cribs!  Here are some additional crib and changer combo options!

I don't know if I was always kind of obsessed with letters A through Z.... but I certainly am now!  I have a ABC surprise that I am working on and hope to share soon!  In the meantime, I love ABC or Alphabet posters.    I have too many ideas than I have space in our baby's room.  But, I love all these posters!  Etsy has a billion options in a wide range of colors and often times customizable!

C.C... Colorful Closet!

So, I am really into pretty closets.  I love organizing and we are starting to tackle the soon to be baby's room!  I spotted a really cute closet recently (cannot find photo).  I love the idea of painting the inside of a closet a bright color.  It is just cheerful and pretty!  Perfect for a nursery or linen closet or pantry- pick a color and paint the inside.  Add some shelves and organization and voila!

N is for Nursery!

So, let me first say that I plan to keep this blog true to its roots...focusing on home decor and style.  But, you will find some baby stuff sprinkled in as relevant to the theme at hand.  Today is one of those days.

Well, actually today is THE day!  I will hopefully be finding out later today whether I am having a boy or girl.  I can hardly freaking wait.  I am so impressed by those people that wait their whole preganancy!  I certainly cannot do that!  I am dying to know and am ready to start planning.  The moment I find out pink or blue...the nursery decorating (and shopping in general) will commence.... I mean REALLY commence!  Get out that credit card honey!

I have some ideas in mind already about what I want in the nursery.... no matter what the gender is.  So, you can expect may DIY craft projects in the near future!
