T! Tin Tile.... backsplash?

So a month or so ago I shared the photos of my kitchen makeover.  I love my painted cabinets and I painted the walls since then too.  We still have to finish it though.  Sometimes I feel like I live in a house filled with half finished projects!

So, you will remember that I said I wanted to do white subway tiles for the backsplash.  Well... we have not gotten around to it.  The wall is kind of rough and in truth we should hire a professional to do it- but out of money, that is not an option.  Perusing my saved photos and the web, I was reminded of tin tile backsplashes.  I was set on subway tiles.  But, you will remember from my Brimfield post last week that I do heart vintage tin tiles.

Here are some inspiration photos that got me thinking.  What do you think?

You can always use on ceiling too!

My husband is worried that our kitchen it too white and black right now, so maybe this is the "depth" we need.  Stay tuned.... I may have a completed project by tomorrow.  We are on a mission to get this thing done!

Until next time....xoxo

N is for Nook! Breakfast Nook!

Since we bought our house, I always knew our kitchen was screaming for a breakfast nook.   Our current table did not sit in the dining space proportionally.  The husband whipped out his building skills and built me something great!

We only have the benches built.  I am looking to buy pedestal table base so we can do our own table top (longer and more narrow than most tables).   It will be perfect when done, but now it is truly a work in progress!!!

My husband does not plan out projects.  I basically provide a photo of what I want and he goes to town.  I have learned that the process is not good for me.  It is kind of like sausages being made!  But, the final product is always pleasing!

Here are some great banquette/breakfast nook photos that served as some of my inspiration!

This is the photo I found somewhere online that served as my "it" photo!  My honey was ordered to copy it (with a few adjustments!)

This is my benches built.   We need to paint, make a table and get some pillows!  I will share when done, but here is the teaser of what I have now.  I am pretty excited about it!

Well, as you can see I have a lot of work to do in my kitchen to finish it off!  Stay tuned!!!
Until next time.....xoxo

K is for Kitchen Makeover. Part Two...

The reveal is here!  I know you are excited!

As a reminder here is a Before Photo!

Our "new" kitchen did not cost us a lot. We paid a professional to paint the cabinets a crisp and clean white. We purchased black cambrian granite countertops complete with new faucet and undermount sink. Before I reveal the after, let me say there is still a lot to do!  So, consider this "after" photo a work in progress!!!

My to do list includes:
1. Get rid of ceiling fan and put a small chandelier over breakfast nook (when complete).
2. Paint the walls a lighter color and repaint white trim around windows to match cabinets.
3. Tile backsplash (white subway tiles)
4. Make a window treatments.
5. Paint breakfast nook benches and make a table (currently searching for pedestal table base).
6. Find pillows for benches in nook.
7. Get a new dishwasher.
8.  Accessorize accessorize, accessorize!

So, when it is "perfect", I will share again! But, alas... here is the reveal! :)  I am super happy with it!

We are still working on breakfast nook area, I will share that work in progress tomorrow!!

Until next time......xoxo

K is for Kitchen Makeover. Part One!

Okay, are you excited?  I am excited.  I have freshly painted kitchen cabinets and new countertops!

Since we moved into our house, I have been troubled by our kitchen.  It was not horrible, it was just not my taste and was too dark!  We had cherry cabinets, black/gray marble look LAMINATE countertops and matching tile floor.  When we bought the house the walls were orange with a darker orange spouged on top!  YIKES!  The paint was the first thing to go... along with the old knobs (white and blue).  I painted it a grey, figuring that was a good neutral and bought stainless steel knobs.  But, try as I may I could not grow to like the kitchen.  I was so committed to a new kitchen that I was willing to forgo a vacation to get what I wanted!   I LOVE to travel, so that says a lot.

The question was... what to do?  The cabinets were too nice to rip out.  At first I though I would change the floor to hardwood and do a white countertop and leave the cabinets.  But, the more I thought of it the more I realized I should go for the look I wanted which was white cabinets and black countertops.  I have never really loved wood tones, so I knew the cabinets would never make me happy!   I read a design blog that said never sacrifice... and it made me realize that I needed to do what I needed to do!   I always hated the wavy thing above the sink too.  What is that all about?  So, we ripped that out ourselves!

Here is the before...

This dining area is another issue.  I knew from the moment we bought this house that this space was SCREAMING for a breakfast nook with built in benches.  I will talk more about that on Wednesday.

Tomorow, I will reveal the after!  Let's just say... I am a happy woman!  LOVE IT!  Thanks husband for going along with me on this one.

Until next time...xoxo

P.C..... Painted Cabinets!

Exciting News!  I will debut photos next week, but we have been working on a makeover for our kitchen!  The first step has been having our kitchen cabinets painted.  I am soooo excited!  Since we moved into our house I have hated our kitchen.  I thought the husband would never go along with painting them, but eventually he gave in.  I will give you more details about my house next week when I share photos.  Today, I will share some of my kitchen inspiration photos from my inspiration file (sorry I don't know where I got these images).

We went with white  painted cabinets to brighten up the room, but I have also seen lovely black and grey cabinets too!  I love white.  I think white is so crisp and clean!

Check out my inspirations!

Get ready for next week!  I will hopefully be ready to debut my new white cabinets, my new black granite countertops, and maybe even the breakfast nook that the husband just built!  Are you excited?

Until next time.....xoxo

S- Santa can you hear me? I want a kitchen for Christmas!

Dear Santa,
I have been a very good girl this year. Can I please have white quartz countertops, a new sink, hardwood floors and a new backsplash of subway tiles in my kitchen? Please!!!

I have kitchen envy... all the time. We bought a house that had a "updated" kitchen. At the time that seemed like a good idea since I did not think we were too handy. Now, I wish I could gut it and do it just as I want it. Some people are afraid of picking out all the details- this sounds like heaven to me.

We have cherry cabinets that are too nice to rip out- so I have to keep those... at least for a while. But, hardwood floors instead of black tile would really brighten up the space which is quite dark. Additionally, I hate our cheap-ass countertops. They do match the floors... but they are cheap and ugly. Quartz... oh how I love you....shiny and bright....crisp and clean.

This is a inspiration photo that keeps me going when I fall into my kitchen depression. I cannot quite remember where I found it. I love the combo of white and wood. It looks "crisp" but comfortable. The husband got a new car.... now I get a kitchen. Doesn't that seem fair? Marriage is about compromise and making each other happy! Don't you think so husband?

Happy wife... happy life. Right? Until Next Time....xoxo
